Rules of Play

1. Introduction

1.1.Own the Pitch reserve the right to amend these rules as they see fit. The rules in place at the time of an order being placed will govern the bet during its lifetime. These rules are in addition to the Own the Pitch General Terms and Conditions and the Club Specific Rules.

1.2.Own the Pitch is a platform which allows customers to purchase a digital plot on a sports pitch for the entirety of one season.

1.3.Customers must set up an account with Own the Pitch pursuant to the General Terms and Conditions.

1.4.If there are any discrepancies between these Rules of Play, the Club Specific Rules and General Terms and Conditions, the General Terms and Conditions will take precedence.

1.5.Customers must read the General Terms and Conditions, The Rules of Play and the Club Specific Rules prior to placing an order.

2. Pre-season

2.1.During a fixed or defined period of weeks before the start of a new season, a season being defined by the relevant sport governing body and contained within the Club Specific Rules, account holders can use the Own the Pitch website to purchase a digital plot on a pitch. This is how customers can then place a bet for the season. A full season is comprised of 19 to 23 home games, subject to our Club Specific Rules.

2.2.The price of the digital plot is dependent on the location of the digital plot, ranging from £12.00 to £995.00 per season. See Club Specific Rules for the definition of 'season'.

2.3.Plots up to the maximum value of £2000 can be purchased.

2.4.Once a digital plot has been purchased, the account holder will receive a digital Certificate confirming virtual ownership of their plots for the season.

2.5.There will be a limited number of plots available, and a limited number of customers will be able to purchase each plot. This will be defined in the Club Specific rules.

2.6.In the event the minimum number of plot sales for that season, as specified in the Club Specific Rules, is not reached, all accounts will be refunded following the procedures in the General Terms and Conditions.

2.7.If clause 2.6 occurs, that season for that club will not go ahead.

2.8.Once the period for purchasing digital plots has ended, no further plots can be purchased for that season. No plots will be available for purchase throughout the season.

3. During the Season

3.1.The season will consist of the number of games specified in the Club Specific Rules.

3.2.Own the Pitch use third party event information to provide in-match event location data.

3.3.Own the Pitch will finalise the results of each game as quickly as possible following the end of the game. Only once the results have been finalised will a customer be paid any winnings. Due to our reliance on third-party providers for data, this may take longer than you are used to with other betting providers.

3.4.If there is uncertainty on a result, Own the Pitch reserve the right to delay settlement until such a time as there is clarity. Should this clarity not come, Own the Pitch reserve the right to cancel and void the markets affected.

3.5.Own the Pitch reserve the right to re-settle or void bets if information suggests cheating or other rule violations have occurred.

2.6.Own the Pitch reserve the right to re-settle or void bets that have been settled incorrectly through any error. This error can be technical or human error. Own the Pitch retain the right to void bets that it deems are potentially fraudulent or break the rules outlined here, and in the Terms and Conditions. Technical or human errors on Own the Pitch’s part may also see bets voided and they reserve the right to recover any funds paid out in error.

3.7.In the event that an event is overturned after the match this will only affect an individual who did not win as a result of the incorrect decision. The incorrect decision which was made at the time of the match will still stand and those winners will not have their result overturned. However, the amended decision will also result in a win for any individuals who would have won if the revised decision had been made at the time of the match.

4. In Game Events

4.1.

In game events are defined as follows:

  • 4.1.1.

    First Goal

The first goal of the game as awarded by the referee.

  • 4.1.2.

    Goal

Any goal as awarded by the referee for the remainder of the game.

    This includes Own Goals.

The position of the ball, when the shot is taken (shot origin).

Any event happening on a line, will be considered inside that area. For example, a shot on the 18-yard line will count as being inside the box.

Regarding deflections, normally a goal is awarded if the original attempt is on target. An own goal is usually awarded if the attempt is off target and deflected into the goal by an opponent.

  • 4.1.3.

    Shot on Target

Any shots deemed to be on target by the official data provider.

A shot on target is defined as any goal attempt that:

    • Goes into the net regardless of intent – For Goals only.
    • Is a clear attempt to score that would have gone into the net but for being saved by the goalkeeper or is stopped by a player who is the last-man with the goalkeeper having no chance of preventing the goal (last line block).

Shots directly hitting the frame of the goal are not counted as shots on target, unless the ball goes in and is awarded as a goal.

Shots blocked by another player, who is not the last-man, are not counted as shots on target.

  • 4.1.4.

    Free Kick

Any free kicks (direct or indirect) awarded by the referee at any stage during the game.

  • 4.1.5.

    Tackle

Any tackle made at any stage during a game.

A tackle is defined as where a player connects with the ball in a ground challenge where he successfully takes the ball away from the player in possession.

The tackled player must clearly be in possession of the ball before the tackle is made.

    • A tackle won is deemed to be where the tackler or one of his team-mates regains possession as a result of the challenge, or that the ball goes out of play and is “safe”.

    • A tackle lost is where a tackle is made but the ball goes to an opposition player.

Both are deemed as successful tackles however, the outcome of the tackle (won or lost) is different based on where the ball goes after the tackle.

It is not a tackle, when a player cuts out a pass by any means.

4.2.Any winnings may only be confirmed once the game has ended and the information has been validated.

4.3.The information will be supplied and validated by the Official match data provider to the Premier League and EFL Championship. Any discrepancies or disputes, the judgment of Own the Pitch is final.

4.4.The number of events which occur and can result in winnings in a single game will be limited as per the Club Specific Rules.

5. Charitable Donations

5.1.In any game throughout the season, for specific events as defined in the Club Specific Rules, a charitable donation will be made.

5.2.The charitable donation will vary depending on the Club Specific Rules, however it will never be less than £6,000 per match.

5.3.The beneficiary will be agreed upon between Own the Pitch and the sports club and will be contained within the Cub Specific Rules and communicated to customers prior to the purchase of any plot.

6. Abandonment/Cancellation

6.1.All Premier League matches are always played, even if delayed to after the official fixture date. The only circumstances under which games may not be played would be, for example, if there were a pandemic or a war. In the event this occurs all reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that customers are not unfairly prejudiced and all actions will be communicated quickly and efficiently.

7. Customer Responsibility and Queries

7.1.Customers are responsible for reading these Rules of Play and the Club Specific Rules before purchasing a digital plot. By placing an order for a digital plot, you are accepting these rules.

7.2.If a customer should have a complaint, please refer to the Complaints Procedure.
